There's No Battle Of The Sexes If Men Have Already Won
Feminism has been drilled into our heads so much in the past few months that even feminists are starting to roll their eyes at the mention of it. It’s becoming a broken record, and worse, it’s beginning to overlook the fact that women are still being treated differently to men. Complete gender equality is not something that happens overnight, but by now we should at least be nearing it.Even Hollywood stars are falling victims to the downwards spiral of gender equality. After the Sony Pictures email hack that occurred on November 24th, 2014, people were exposed to the fact that female actors are receiving less than their male co-stars. American Hustle was the first to be acknowledged, shedding light on the fact that the 3 leading male stars were to receive 9 per cent of the box office salary, while leading actress Amy Adams was set to receive 7, while Jennifer Lawrence, would only receive 5 per cent, lesser still. Charlize Theron – who plays opposite Chris Hemsworth in ‘Snow White and The Huntsman’ – has also fallen victim to this imbalance between male and female actors, but has put her foot down and negotiated equal payment.
If celebrated actors are undergoing gender inequality, then what hope does that leave for those of us who don’t receive a hefty pay cheque out of it? Male actors may perform the roles of men who – in some cases – are superior to women roles, but that’s not to say it should be continued off-screen.
