Gaultier Brings Brooklyn To The Barbican
Anticipation for year 2014 escalates as the announcement of Jean Paul Gaultier’s Exhibition at The Barbican is confirmed. “I am super excited that the show is coming to London,” says Gaultier, "if there is one place other than Paris that I should like to live in, it is London.”Over the last 35 years, the French designer has indulged us with his array of astonishing designs and collections. Renowned for pushing the boundaries in several aspects of the fashion industry, including gender experimentation in the form of the man-skirt, the prospects for this exhibition are sky-high.
From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk took place in Brooklyn, New York last year. As for what we can expect to see at this exhibition, The Barbican will be host to 140 pieces selected from throughout his monumental career, ranging from haute couture and ready to wear pieces. With photography from the likes of Miles Aldridge and Andy Warhol, we will be enlightened into how gender and social values incorporate into his avant-garde designs. Not to mention being able to see iconic film costumes such as the conical corset worn by Madonna herself.
I for one wholeheartedly accept The Barbican’s invitation for London to venture the inner workings of Gaultier’s prolific mind, do you?
